Don't Be That Mom

The biggest mistake you can make in your motherhood journey is trying to be “That Mom”. That mom that's super organized. That mom that's super strict/lenient. That mom your friends with. That mom you watch on Tik Tok. That mom that writes the blogs you read. Don't be THAT mom. Just be Mom. Your own kind of mom.

I tried for years to be like other moms. Every Time I was around another mom, watched a mom video, or read a mom blog, I wanted to be like that mom. I tried and tried to be like all these other moms and I wasn't paying any attention to how I needed, or wanted, to mom.

I mean these moms had to know what they were doing. They had been at this a while now. I wanted, I needed, to look like I knew what I was doing. To be completely straight forward, I was mom lost.

I was constantly worried about what others thought about how I was as a mother. I was always adapting to my surroundings and the different people I was around and watching. I didn't want to be mom-shamed, so, I just mommed the way others were.

Mom shaming was a huge fear of mine. I was so concerned with myself and my comfort, I never once stopped to think how awful this must be for my kids and how confused they must be! I mean one day I'm the more lenient mom and the next day I'm more strict. No wonder my children listened to dad more. He was always constant with the way he parented.

Mothers are made to feel like we have to be perfect when in reality perfect is just a word. An unreachable goal that not even the most put-together mom in the world can achieve. We see all of these posts on social media about unruly children and bad parenting. We fear one day we could be that parent. That could be about our child. We fear that our parenting is going to be judged and we will be at the rath of mom-shaming at its finest.

The best advice I can give any new mom is to be your own mom! Learn from others, don't BE others! Ignore those judging you because at the end of the day it is you and your children and as long as they are happy and healthy then what others have to say doesn't matter at all.
